These one-of-a-kind custom painted skate decks made to support of our current exhibition, RESPECT: Hip Hop Style & Wisdom are a unique collaboration that equally supports the local artists that created them, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Oakland Parks Foundation that works with local art/activist Keith “K-DUB” Williams to build and provide safe skate environments for Oakland’s youth.
James Seevers has been a member of the Bay Area underground community for over 20 years. He started out playing shows and skateboarding in high school in San Mateo, then moved to Oakland in 2001 to attend CCA. Since graduating with a BFA in Painting in 2005, he has continuously shown his work in alternative spaces and galleries in Oakland and SF, curated group shows, and performed with his band, Jackal Fleece, in numerous warehouses and bars, skateboarding the whole time. James' fine art all stems from his relationship to the landscape of hills and forests of the Bay, both of memory and dream. He says about his work, "I attempt to paint that which we know is there, but can not see."
