The flower commonly known as 'Coneflower’ is native to the Southeastern United States and now grows wild in woods, thickets, and prairies all over North America. Enslaved persons learned about local medicinal plants from Indigenous healers who used the root to treat fever, headache, toothache, sore throat, and menstrual cramp. This bandana honors the plants that were used in traditional 'roots’ medicine.
